What's Happening in Mississippi Scholars?
Recently, the Public Education Forum of Mississippi Board of Directors met and approved the following changes to the Mississippi Scholars Course of Study:

Beginning 2012 seniors must complete 1 Advanced Placement (AP) Course.
Beginning 2013 seniors must complete 2 Advanced Placement (AP) Courses.

Additional Expectation:
NO in-school or out-of-school suspensions.

All of this is designed to increase the student's chances of success in this highly competitive, global economy.  Research shows that students who take challenging, college-preparatory courses do better in school, even if they started out with poor test scores and low expectations.  Students who take rigorous courses are also less likely to drop out, and they perform better in vocational and technical courses.

Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG)
Students who successfully complete the Mississipi Scholars course of study may qualify to receive an ACG, if eligible.  To apply, visit FAFSA on the Web and select "Making Corrections to a FAFSA" and then select "ACG Eligibility."  If you meet the basic eligibility criteria, the U.S. Department of Education will notify the college or university of your potential qualification.
